"In the Visible City", 2015
Italo Calvino’s “Invisible Cities” compose, as a whole, a mysterious imaginary map, that unfolds to the reader as a source of endless inspiration, following at the same time a very special and intense narration.
In the project "In the Visible City", the cities’ atmosphere is interpreted and outlined through the perspective of a dynamically alternating landscape, which is based on common structural and conceptual elements that emerge from Calvino’s novel while structuring a new city. The visitor has the opportunity to wander virtually therein, explore it, and leave his own mark, making himself part of the city.
The project "In the Visible City" is a virtual reality interactive installation, which gives to the visitor the chance to interact with it by developing a dialogue. In the mean-time, he has the opportunity not only to navigate through the virtual city, but to participate in the shaping of it in real time.
The project was presented at the conference dedicated to the Invisible Cities, organized by the Department of Communication and Media Studies of the University of Athens at the Italian Institute of Culture in Athens, on the 23rd and 24th of October, 2015.

Step in the world of sound, 2015
|
"Step into the world of sound” is a work in progress based on my Master’s degree study, which aims to integrate digital technology, in particular low-cost virtual reality hardware (Head Mounted Displays combined with hand movement tracking systems) in the process of music education for the deaf. The ultimate goal of this research is to offer the deaf a new or a different form of contact with sound through a ludic and interactive environment. An important objective of this effort is the use of technological aids as flexible and affordable solutions, which could easily be used by music organizations, schools, cultural institutions or even at home. "Step into the world of sound” is a composite immersive visual and audio system. For its realization a HMD is used, combined with a hand movement tracking system, as well as a special installation consisting of specialized speakers (low frequency) which surround the user at a certain positions and distance. The application is composed of three main parts: a) visual performance of oscillations of the sound in order to make its structure clear, b) creation (by the user) of rhythmic patterns and c) representation through three-dimensional space of musical compositions specifically made for this purpose in order to describe the frequency range and the meaning of timbre. |
Επιλογή* in Crisis, 2014
*επιλογή = choice, decision
|
"Επιλογή in Crisis" is a work in progress regarding an interactive project (experimental game), that takes place in a virtual reality environment. The project refers to the concept of "crisis" as the structure of choices and interconnections of a system, those which under certain conditions can threaten the balance of the system itself. Besides, the word «κρίνω» (judge whether something is right or wrong in Greek language) is synonymous with crisis κρίση). This project is being developed by the research group of the Greek-French Master with title “Art, virtual reality and multiuser systems of artistic expression”, between the Athens School of Fine Arts and the Paris-8 University. Artistic and scientific directors: Marie-Hélène Tramus, Manthos Santorineos Participating teachers : Stavroula Zoi, Nefeli Dimitriadi, Taxiarchis Diamantopoulos Participating students : John Bardakos , Christina Chrisanthopoulou, Ifigeneia Mavridou, Anna Meli, Nikos Papadopoulos, Argyro Papathanasiou, Maria Velaora Links : https://share.oculusvr.com/app/-epilogi-in-crisis http://youtu.be/ej7wHJ7k4Mk http://youtu.be/ZtL_K8IF4bo http://youtu.be/H-YnM3PgfkM https://www.academia.edu/8742326/From_the_monologue_of_mass_media_to_the_dialogue_of_new_media_in_the_information_society._The_interactive_narrative_of_digital_games_as_a_case_study_of_crisis |
